Lighting can make or break your shoot, regardless of location. Natural light is often the easiest and most flattering, but you have to know when and how to use it.

Golden Hour Magic

Golden hour—the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset—is the holy grail of natural light. Soft, warm light adds a dreamy quality to your images. It works wonders for nature settings and romantic shoots.

Midday Sun Challenges

The midday sun can be harsh and create strong shadows. If you’re shooting outdoors during this time:

• Look for shaded areas (e.g., under trees or buildings).

• Use reflectors to bounce light and soften shadows on your model’s face.

Indoor and Studio Lighting

If you’re shooting indoors or in a studio, lighting becomes even more controllable. Invest in softboxes, ring lights, or continuous lights to mimic natural light. Play with shadows and contrast to add drama when needed.
